To position oneself physically in an erect position, rise to one's feet, remain motionless, be placed upright, place something upright, occupy a location, measure when standing, and be present or welled up in tears, sweat, etc.
To mentally position oneself, tolerate or not tolerate, maintain one's ground or safety, and take a firm or oppositional stance.
To position socially, act as an umpire in cricket, undergo or withstand, be a candidate in an election, remain valid, oppose in competition, cover expenses, maintain a position or rank, be consistent or agree, and appear in court.
(intransitive, nautical) Of a ship or its captain, to steer, sail (in a specified direction, for a specified destination etc.).
(intransitive, copulative) To remain without ruin or injury.
(card games) To stop asking for more cards; to keep one's hand as it has been dealt so far.
